At Alabama, he was first team All-SEC, SEC Offensive Player of the Year, and SEC Freshman of the Year.There has rarely, if ever, been this accomplished a transfer quarterback. Combined with Oklahoma’s incredible recent history of quarterback development, and expectations are quite high for Hurts under the tutelage of Lincoln Riley.Ahead of next week’s Big 12 media days, Hurts continues to draw early hype from the media. Media members voted on the preseason All-Big 12 teams, as well as a few preseason awards, and the Oklahoma quarterback is represented.Jalen Hurts won the vote for Big 12 preseason Newcomer of the Year.Given his previous success at the sport’s biggest program, this probably isn’t a bold prediction. Hurts will have some competition for the league’s top awards. His Texas counterpart Sam Ehlinger is selected as the preseason first team All-Big 12 quarterback, and Offensive Player of the Year.Oklahoma linebacker Kenneth Murray is the preseason Defensive Player of the Year. He’s completed 62.8-percent of his throws, going for 5,481 yards, 48 touchdowns, as 12 interceptions through the air, and 1,945 yards and 23 scores on the ground.
