Homeowner shoots and kills 3 masked men in possible ‘stand your ground’ case

first_imgiStock(ATLANTA) — A homeowner in Georgia shot and killed three young masked men at his home early Monday morning, according to Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett.Authorities have yet to identify the three deceased men, Levett said during a media briefing. The sheriff’s office told ABC News it is waiting to release the names of the men until all three families are notified. The homeowner, who has also not been identified by deputies, was taken to the station for questioning.“It could be a ‘stand your ground’ type case, based on the preliminary [information] that we have learned so far,” Levett said during the briefing.Deputies found two guns at the scene but have yet to determine who the weapons belonged to, Levett said. The men were found outside the home when deputies arrived. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two other victims were transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.A neighbor told ABC affiliate WSB Atlanta that he heard gunfire around 4 a.m. Monday and ran outside to see what happened.“It was five shots, and then it sounded like a handgun. Then I heard somebody have an assault rifle. And it was a slew of shots that came out,” neighbor Carlos Watson said, according to the station.Deputies are expected to make a public update on the shooting “this evening.”The legal phrase “stand your ground” became a national story in 2012 when George Zimmerman killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin following an altercation in their Florida neighborhood.Zimmerman was charged with murder but used the “stand your ground” defense to say he had no choice but to shoot Martin because he feared for his life. In July 2013, a Florida jury acquitted Zimmerman. Copyright © 2019, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.last_img read more

Lady Bulldogs Fall Short Against Lady Trojans

first_imgThe Batesville JV Lady Bulldog Volleyball Team dropped a heartbreaker to East Central last night falling in 3 games. Scores were 24-25; 25-18; 15-12. In game 1, the Dogs held off set point and scored 3 straight to sneak out the win. In set 2 a new lineup and missed serves were too much to overcome. In set 3, after trailing early, the team battled to a 12-12 tie before losing service allowing East Central to gain the momentum and ultimately the victory. Naia Bustinza was the top hitter for the evening with 5 kills at the net, while Shelby Westerfeld chipped in with 3 of her own. Sophie Lee was most consistent in serve reception and digs with 14 good passes and 16 digs. Courtesy of Bulldogs Coach Shelly Prickel. Varsity is now 5-2 on the season and travel to Brownstown Central on Saturday for their invitational. From Kateri Paul: The East Central Trojans came to Batesville to take on an ailing Varsity Bulldogs. The Varsity Bulldogs are struggling to find their way without key players. In set one Senior Abby Westerfeld went down with a knee injury. This sent the team into a tailspin that we could not recover from. The Trojans defeated the dogs 25-13, 25-11, 25-11.  Captain Macy Prickel led the team in kills followed by Cayman Werner. Serving was led by Regina Gerstbauer who was 11 for 11. The Dogs take on the Connersville Spartans this Saturday.Tonight, ECVB JV defeated Batesville in 3 tight sets. With a very slow start, EC lost the first set 24-25, but pulled out the next two sets 25-17 and 15-12. With a lot still to improve on, I was very proud of the way they proved that they can aggressively finish a set when they reach the final few points. Also, it took effort from ALL of the girls tonight and I was very happy with the way the girls from the bench stepped up and filled the shoes where it was needed. JV is now 6-1 on the season. Next up, ECVB JV hosts Lawrenceburg September 5th.Courtesy of Trojans Coach Jose Andres.  ECVB traveled to Batesville for a non-conference match up last night. Both JV and Varsity came home with the win. Varsity won in straight sets with the scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-11. ECVB at Batesville 8-29-19‘We took control from the start and held it for majority of the match. We let them get a couple of runs throughout, but we did a great job at keeping our energy up and battling through with bigger runs of our own. The energy that our fans and JV team brought made it feel like we were at EC. That plays a huge factor in a rivalry match-up and helped the girls stay focused on the court. Our servers were aggressive and took risks and it paid off. Our back court was on top of their game so it let our setters run the court and our hitters did their job. All in all, it was a solid team effort from start to finish.’Trojans Coach Cassie Laker.’last_img read more

Quads star Sithole wins Korean Open

first_img7 June 2012 After competing in the BNP Paribas 2012 World Team Cup that finished on 27 May it was a short rest for quads star Sithole as the Korean Open started at the Olympic Park Tennis Centre in Seoul just two days later, on 29 May. The win has lifted Sithole to eighth in the world rankings, just eight points behind the man he beat in the Korea Open semi-finals, Jamie Burdekin. SAinfo reporter “Although I lost to Jamie earlier this year, I have beaten him twice in 2011 and knew I had to be focused and stick to my game plan if I was going to win the match,” Sithole said ahead of their showdown. This time around, Sithole was on top of his game and cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 victory to lift the Korea Open title. Semi-finalThe win set up a meeting against top-seed Jamie Burdekin of Great Britain in the semi-finals. Earlier this year, Sithole had lost to Burdekin in the final of the Melbourne Open. He faced 34-year-old Frenchman Stephane Erismann in his first match of the tournament and rolled to a comfortable victory, winning 6-1, 6-0. FinalFacing Sithole for the title was Anders Hard of Sweden, a player he had beaten in their three previous meetings, including most recently in the Florida Open in April when Sithole prevailed 6-7, 6-1, 6-2. South African wheelchair tennis champion Lucas Sithole has added the Korea Open tennis title to his growing list of achievements. It’s a big boost for the world number 10 – now world number 8 – ahead of the Paralympics in London later this year. Commenting on Sithole’s victory, Wheelchair Tennis South Africa’s director and coach Holger Losch said in a statement: “Lucas always plays to win. We are proud of his determination, courage and performance. He has been working hard, and it is so good to see he is reaping the rewards.” Producing an excellent performance, the South African star, who was ranked 10th in the world heading into the event, outplayed Burdekin 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the final, which was his fourth title-decider of 2012. 5 Documentary-Style Lenses for 5 Different Budgets

first_img3. Canon CN-E 18-80 T4.4The Canon CN-E 18-80 T4.4 is a workhorse among documentary-style lenses. In my opinion, it gets dismissed far too quickly by filmmakers for its slower aperture of T4.4 or F4.0. However, upon reviewing footage from this lens, you quickly realize the beautiful imagery it yields. It has a laundry list of admirable features — a constant aperture, fantastic focal range, and even image stabilization. This lens could very well become a go-to. To find the perfect documentary-style lenses for your next project, we’re going to look at five of the top lenses across multiple budget ranges. For documentary filmmakers, choosing the right lenses for your project can determine whether or not you get the shots you need to effectively tell your story. That’s why it’s so important to choose the perfect documentary-style lenses. Let’s look at five you should consider.1. Canon 17-55 f/2.8 EF-SIn my opinion, the Canon 17-55 is one of the more underrated documentary-style lenses (for its price point) on the market today. Originally introduced in 2009 with the Canon 7D, this lens has largely seen zero changes or updates since its initial release. However, the image quality and features are what keeps this lens relevant for documentary filmmakers today. Many argue that simply because this is a crop sensor lens (EF-S), it’s not classified as an L Series piece of glass. It features great optics, a decent zoom range, fast aperture, and even image stabilization. I’ve personally used this lens on quite a few documentary projects, and I absolutely love it for its versatility and ability to fit within budget parameters. 2. Fujinon MK18-55mm T2.9 LensIf you’re shooting on MFT or the Sony E-Mount camera, then the Fujinon 18-55 is a fantastic choice among documentary-style lenses. With a fast 2.9 constant aperture and a rich history of documentary lenses, the Fujinon 18-55 offers beautiful optics, a great form factor, and fantastic image quality. 4. Canon CN-E 17-120mm T2.95Over the past few years, Canon has really established itself as a solid manufacturer of documentary-style lenses for filmmakers. Canon offers such a wide range of lens options. Its most solid and broad documentary offering would have to be the 17-120mm. Its long range and fast aperture make it almost a staple — if budget allows. I’ve personally been able to use this lens on a number of projects and the range it offers always impresses me — as does its beautiful cinema optics. 5. Angenieux Optimo 28-76mm f/2.4 — T2.6If you’ve ever had the opportunity to use an Angenieux zoom lens, then you know just what a treat they are. They’re incredibly sharp and render colors beautifully. Simply put, they are exceptional documentary-style lenses. This is a lens that really takes a project to the next level. If budget is of minimal concern, then an Angenieux zoom lens is exactly where you should direct your efforts.Image via Angenieux.Overall, there are many wonderful zoom lens options out there for documentary filmmakers. Fortunately, no matter your budget, you can find fantastic options that fit your needs.Cover image via Triff.Looking for more on lenses? Beermen ‘outhustled’ in Game 3 loss, says Leo Austria

first_imgThe Beermen, just like in their 99-94 loss in the finals opener, struggled to find the bottom of the net.“Shooting 32.9 percent is very low for us. In the past our shooting percentage in the finals is 40 plus to 50 percent. It is very low so that’s it, I think that’s the culprit,” Austria said as if repeating his words in Game 1.That horrendous shooting is largely due to Magnolia’s suffocating defense right from the opening tip.“I think Magnolia did a great adjustment in the game and they were able to disrupt our pattern. We’re not able to run our pattern according to our game plan. Credit to Magnolia, they limited us to just 82 points,” Austria said.“Their defense is clogging our big men in the post. Every entry pass is denied and we’re not able to hit our outside shots. It’s hard to win when it’s like that. We were outhustled and outran and i guess our effort was not enough,” he added.Arwind Santos led the Beermen in scoring with 19 points but he had 22 attempts and converted only eight.ADVERTISEMENT SEA Games hosting troubles anger Duterte Photo by Tristan Tamayo/INQUIRER.netMANILA, Philippines—There’s no need for further analysis to determine why San Miguel Beer lost to Magnolia in Game 3 of the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Finals as far as head coach Leo Austria is concerned.Numbers don’t lie and the stat sheet showed how the Hotshots took a 2-1 series lead on Sunday night.ADVERTISEMENT View comments Hotshots hold off Beermen for 2-1 series lead Panelo: Duterte ‘angry’ with SEA Games hosting hassles LATEST STORIES Ethel Booba twits Mocha over 2 toilets in one cubicle at SEA Games venue Hontiveros presses for security audit of national power grid Philippine Arena Interchange inauguratedcenter_img DA eyes importing ‘galunggong’ anew Even June Mar Fajardo had trouble in dealing what Magnolia threw at him as the reigning five-time MVP shot 4-of-11 from the field to finish with 17 points.Game 4 is on Wednesday with Austria this time, hoping to make the necessary adjustments to avoid a 1-3 hole.Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games PLAY LIST 02:42PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games01:44Philippines marks anniversary of massacre with calls for justice01:19Fire erupts in Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City01:07Trump talks impeachment while meeting NCAA athletes02:49World-class track facilities installed at NCC for SEA Games02:11Trump awards medals to Jon Voight, Alison Krauss Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. EDC investigating claim it backed SNCLavalin on corrupt Angola dam contract

first_imgOTTAWA — Export Development Canada says it’s reviewing support it gave to SNC-Lavalin after learning of an allegation the agency backed the company on a dam project in Angola that it won corruptly. The accusation, first reported by CBC News, is based on information from an unnamed insider at the beleaguered construction and engineering company.A spokeswoman for the Crown corporation, which acts as a credit agency for firms looking to do business abroad, says EDC would have never knowingly taken part in any deal involving bribery or corruption.Jessica Draker says after learning about the insider’s accusation last month, EDC hired an outside lawyer to investigate the specific allegation related to the dam project in Angola, for which she says EDC provided “political risk insurance.”SNC-Lavalin didn’t immediately respond to questions about the project from The Canadian Press. The company is at the heart of a political controversy that has engulfed the federal Liberal government for nearly two months and has cost Prime Minister Justin Trudeau two senior cabinet ministers, his most trusted adviser and the country’s top public servant. The Canadian Presslast_img read more

Quique Setien This is an important victory for us

first_imgReal Betis Coach Quique Setien is proud of his team’s performance after a 2-1 Europa League victory at the San Siro.Setien relished the “prestige of beating Milan on their own turf” and even suggested the lead would have been wider after dominating the game.“This is an important victory for us, not just for the three points that put us top of the group, but also for the prestige of beating Milan on their own turf,” said Setien in his Press conference via Football Italia.“The truth is that we put in a great performance, especially in the first half, although Milan had some chances in the second. If you got the sensation we were time-wasting in the final 15 minutes, then I’ll have a talk with my players, because I do not like that approach. I apologise if we gave off that idea.Cristiano Ronaldo, JuventusSerie A Betting: Match-day 3 Stuart Heath – September 14, 2019 Considering there is a number of perfect starts so early in the Serie A season, as well as a few surprisingly not-so perfect ones….“Milan were perhaps a little surprised by our style of football, as we forced them to play long balls. We depend on possession in all our games and this time we were also able to score two goals.“Milan are a great team, though, and we saw that in the final stages. It was a memorable game for us and our fans, so we are happy to dedicate it to them. This is my first experience in Europe, but the team showed great character and confidence.“Winning or losing doesn’t change my perception of a performance, because it can depend on many factors beyond our control. The important thing is to play well, because that gives you a better chance of winning. Today reinforced that concept.”last_img read more
