5 Reasons Why You Should Not Miss Camp Bisco

first_imgAfter what was an incredible weekend of what we have come to know as pure “Bisco” out in Colorado with three nights at the Ogden Theatre that culminated in a celebration at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, we look ahead to The Disco Biscuits‘ annual summer festival, Camp Bisco. Set to take place July 14th-16th at Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA, this year’s lineup features six sets from the festival’s namesake act, as well as sets from Odesza, Big Grizmatik (Big Gigantic, Griz, and Gramatik), STS9, Griz, Lotus, Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals, Thundercat, Dopapod, RL Grime, Tom Hamilton’s American Babies, Orchard Lounge, The New Deal, and more, Camp Bisco is bringing a little bit of everything to the table.Camp Bisco Reveals Stacked Lineup Of Performing ArtistsWith a major announcement about vast improvements on the festival site, such as round-the-clock shuttle service, advanced receipt of festival wristbands to expedite check-in, increased water station availability, a new Wellness Program – with daily yoga, mountain hikes, a 5K run and workshops – and Clean Vibes on-site to help with waste removal and ensuring a greener event, this is looking to be the best Camp Bisco yet. (Purchase tickets HERE)There are plenty of reasons why you should not miss this year’s festivities, and we are going to take a look at a few of them now:5. Waterpark FunMontage Mountain has an unbelievable water park for all to enjoy. Between the various activities such as the Wavepool, Alpine Run Waterslide Complex, Cross-Country Canal, Tundra Tornado, Iceberg Alley Luge, there is plenty of water-y options to have some fun in the sun outside and keep cool.4. The Classic Jamtronica BandsCamp Bisco has always been at the forefront of the jamtronica and electronica scenes, and with STS9, Lotus, Papadosio, The New Deal, GNOME Project, and The Indobox, there will be plenty for old-school Camp Bisco heads to enjoy.3.  Big Gigantic + Griz + Gramatik = Big GrizMatikWhat more needs to be said on this subject? You take three acts that, on their own are huge, and seamlessly coalesce into one….and you get Big Grizmatik. With the amalgamation of hip-hop, funk, electro-soul, and jazz, along with live instrumentation and a full-on audio-visual sensory experience, this set is going to be a major party.2. Six Sets of The Disco BiscuitsThe founders and namesake of Camp Bisco, this festival wouldn’t be possible without the forethought that The Disco Biscuits had back in the late 90’s. The pioneers of trance-fusion carefully curated the lineup with all of the major jamtronica acts mentioned above, and has had some of the biggest international DJ’s and bands play before, or while, they were carving their own paths to superstardom. Think Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, Skrillex, LCD Soundsystem, Wolfgang Gartner, Ween, Thievery Corporation, Shpongle, Emancipator, Snoop Dogg, Nas & Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, The Roots, and Cut Copy, just to name a few. The Disco Biscuits are Camp Bisco.Coming off arguably one of the the best multi-night runs in their entire history, out in Colorado at Denver’s Ogden Theatre and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Biscuits are poised and ready to bring it for six full sets at Camp. To the Bisco faithful, there is absolutely no place on Planet Earth that we would rather be. 1.  The Vibe Between the major improvements mentioned earlier, a lineup that has something for everybody, one of the best festival sites in the country in Montage Mountain, and some of the most hardcore, dedicated and faithful fans in the music world, how can you not expect to have a vibe that goes in stride with all of that? Just make sure you bring your ass to the party! For more information and to purchase tickets to Camp Bisco, click HERE.last_img read more

Gregg Allman Hosts Sensational ‘Laid Back Festival’ At Jones Beach [Full Audio]

first_imgGregg Allman’s inaugural Laid Back Festival was such a huge success last year that he decided to expand it to five venues this year. In a statement, Allman explained that “The idea was to put the Laid Back vibe on more than just the music. It had to be about food and drink too, and the people just loved it. So we’re coming back and taking it on the road!”Last night was the third stop in the tour and brought the festival back to the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY. The one day event attracted a near sell-out crowd and offered a wide selection of food, craft beer, wine and of course music. The music was split between two stages, allowing concert-goers easy access to the food vendors. Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band started things off on the Low Country Stage at 4pm, and the music continued seamlessly until 11pm, the latest that the local ordinances allow. Marshall Tucker Band, Orleans and America alternated between stages, playing nostalgic favorites before the sun began to set for Jason Isbell. The festival, named after Allman’s 1973 debut solo album, culminated with the rock legend finally taking the stage. As artful as ever, he guided his band through blues, rock and pop selections. Listen to the full set, recorded by taper Butch Almberg below.[Cover Photo by Shannon Williams]last_img read more

Grateful Dead’s NYC 12/7/71 Show To Be Featured On “Dave’s Picks Vol. 22”

first_imgGrateful Dead archivist David Lemieux has revealed plans for the newest installment in his archival series! The new Dave’s Picks Vol. 22 will highlight a beloved era in the Dead’s career, spotlighting the band’s performance on 12/7/71 at the Felt Forum in New York City, from the famous run of shows in the lower level of Madison Square Garden. The show features the return of Pigpen, who had been absent from the Dead since 8/26/71, and features five Pigpen-sung songs, including what Lemieux describes as “arguably the best version of ‘Smokestack Lightning’.” In announcing the new release, he continues, “Every song from this show is played to perfection, presenting definitive live versions of every song played from this era.”Because the show is relatively short at only two and a half hours, they’ve added the bulk of the second set from the previous night, including a massive “Other One” jam, and exceptional renditions of “Wharf Rat” and “Uncle John’s Band”. You can get a taste of what’s to come from the taper recording of this show below, though the sound in the upcoming release will be unbeatable. To make this release akin to a mini-box set, the 2017 Bonus Disc will feature the bulk of the rest of this 12/6/71 show, giving you two nearly-complete shows from one of the most requested and sought-after runs in Grateful Dead history. Alpine Valley Will Not Host Any Live Concert Events This Year

first_imgOne of the Midwest’s finest facilities Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Elkhorn, Wisconsin will not be hosting any concerts this season. Live Nation announced that the outdoor venue will not open in 2017 due to a lack of tour routes that traditionally pass through the area. With Phish off the road, and Dave Matthews taking a year off with his Band, the Valley will remain quiet this summer.“It’s an unusual year in that a lot of artists we’ve traditionally hosted are playing in other buildings or not playing at all this season,” explains Jon Reens, the Vice President of Marketing for Midwest music at Live Nation.“Either they’re not coming through Wisconsin or are playing at places like Wriggly Field instead of Alpine Valley,” he says. “Dave Matthews, the band, isn’t touring this year. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds are touring together, but they’re playing at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago.”While Live Nation still worked to book the season with other noteworthy acts, they weren’t able to come up with the proper billings needed to open the venue for the 2017 season. “Whether it was touring schedules, or production design where they can’t fit on our stage, or other things, they were not able to confirm for 2017,” explains Reens.Instead, the time will be used to focus on revamping the venue with general maintenance and repairs for a great season next year. “We have absolutely zero intention of abandoning the facility,” he assures. “We are refocusing on 2018 to build a more robust schedule. We had to make a difficult decision to not open for this year, but we’re focusing on 2018.”Not totally random, but remember when the Famous Mockingbird “totally knew shitting on Trey would inspire him”? Trey Anastasio Band Busts Out “Aqui Como Alla” After 16 Years At Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam

first_imgThe Warren Haynes Christmas Jam has become a holiday staple, with last night’s performance at Asheville’s U.S. Cellular Center marking the 29th iteration of the beloved event. Each year, the Christmas Jam led by Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes sees performances by some of the jam scene’s best and brightest. This year, in addition to numerous collaborative sets by the likes of The Avett Brothers, Blackberry Smoke, Marcus King, and Les Bros—the latter which is composed of Marc Quinones, Warren Haynes, Paul Riddle, Lamar Williams Jr., Bruce Katz, and Jorgen Carlsson—Christmas Jam 29 invited Phish frontman Trey Anastasio for two sets during the night. For Trey’s first appearance of the evening, the guitarist and vocalist appeared with the classic paired-down lineup for his solo project Trey Anastasio Band, also featuring drummer Russ Lawton, bassist Tony Markellis, and keyboardist Ray Paczkowski. While many of the sets throughout the night were somewhat restrained due to time, TAB’s performance at Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam was one of the most extended. After opening with classic Trey tune “Gotta Jibboo”, the band wasted no time getting into the nitty-gritty of the set, which mixed the band’s new material (“Everything’s Right” and “Set Your Soul Free”) with classics (“Gotta Jibboo” and “First Tube”). Their set also saw a performance of “Aqui Como Alla”, a tune which hasn’t been played by the group since 2001, marking a sixteen-year gap.Setlist: Trey Anastasio Band | U.S. Cellular Center | Asheville, NC | 12/9/2017Set: Gotta Jibboo, Burn That Bridge, Everything’s Right, Aqui Como Alla, Sand, Dark and Down, Set Your Soul Free, First TubeTrey Anastasio Band, “Gotta Jiboo”[Video: Warren Haynes]Trey Anastasio Band, “Burn That Bridge”[Video: John Ellis]Trey Anastasio Band, “First Tube”[Video: rohbear3]Trey was also featured during a short in-between set led by Warren Haynes.
